ZoomBombing - it's a hate crime

Last week, we got ZoomBombed in our ‘Ask Us Anything’ webinar. We were subject to some disturbing images and Lydia Amoah, our Learning and Cross Cultural Director, suffered invasive, serious racial abuse, now reported to the Metropolitan Police.

We were blindsided. In the short term, we have increased our security measures in place on Zoom. If you use Zoom, check yours to ensure you are operating safely with passwords, waiting rooms and email checks.

To create a positive outcome from this, Lydia Amoah is leading a Duty of Care policy to protect anyone who interacts in the on or off-line space, which we will open source to all sectors. With ignorance rife, the case for diversity and inclusion is paramount, everywhere we show up. It's down to us. Those who shape popular culture with advertising and communications to continue to represent, to show hate will not be tolerated in our society.

Our webinar series is our space, where we can solve challenges together, drawing on the wisdom of professionals, from within ourselves and within the group. Last week we discussed remote working as a parent/carer.

Why parenting is a challenge right now

Moderated by Nicky Kemp, Managing Editor, BITE, Creative Brief, we featured a mix of parents: Marvyn Harrison, Founder Dope Black Dads and Strategist at Hogarth, Han-Son Lee, Founder DaddiLife and Strategist at Proximity, Jo Coombs, Chief Operating Officer, Publicis Groupe, and Justin Pahl, CEO, VMLY&R. We discussed how to reduce guilt, the need to stop apologising, reducing zoom calls and carving out time for yourself. It felt emotional.

Next session announced...

In our third session on Wednesday 29 April, 2 - 3pm, we're tackling 'inclusive remote working for line managers' featuring Helen Matthews, Chief People Officer, Ogilvy, with more guests on the way. This one's particularly aimed at line managers who want to understand how to manage their teams better or for team members who are struggling to show up right now.

Campaign School Reports - Now Live!

Every year Campaign publish their School Reports on agency performance across the last 12 months. As part of the School Reports, every company who has passed our Creative Equals Equality Standard Accreditation has their results included - it's a milestone.

As Nigel Vaz, CEO of Publicis Sapient and President of the IPA says: 'We encourage agencies to sign up to Creative Equals’ ‘Equality Standard’ to audit and improve their inclusivity and diversity'. As a fundamental driver for innovation, creativity and profitability, a focus on diversity is business critical in Covid-19 times. As Vaz says: '...the greatest chance to reimagine how we work has come about by accident, not design. It’s borne out of adversity, but is being shaped by our need and ability to quickly and creatively adapt.'

Diversity will help us do just that.

Keep safe, everywhere.
Love, the Creative Equals team
