What's new in 2022: CCIndia, retain staff; about Samsung, jobs with us <3

#CREATIVECOMEBACK INDIA 2022 LAUNCHES

In a first for India's advertising industry, this International Women's Month, we are calling for all female creatives in India who want to restart their career to join Creative Comeback. Partnered with D&AD and Diageo, we help #BreakTheBias by changing perceptions of the CV gaps women have due to a career break, often for caring responsibilities.

CMO of Diageo India, Deepika Warrier says: "Women are 11 times more likely to not work after a COVID job loss (Times of India, 2021). We know when women take a career break, their life experiences bring them a deeper, richer perspective'.

The FREE two-week virtual programme is open to all female creatives (art directors, creative directors, copywriters, etc) across India. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation in India with school closures, we have now pushed the dates to March 27 - April 8.

HOW TO RETAIN YOUR STAFF: DO IT ON PURPOSE

One of the key metrics behind the 'Great Resignation' is a belonging measurement, which many employers don't fully understand. Research by McKinsey shows 52% leave their roles when they feel 'they don't belong' or aren't 'valued by their manager'. What we see is how these rates translating to turnover by groups are even higher for non-majority groups through our Equality Standard.

To help your staff stay, it's essential to help them find their purpose. In the pandemic, 70% of staff have considered their purpose in life and are looking to fulfil this in their roles. As an employer, stating your purpose and values while encouraging all line managers to truly listen to what motivates your staff is key to retention.

Living her purpose is the North Star of our Senior Business Director, Steph Matthews, who writes about what leaders can do in her Campaign article. She quotes Dolly Parton as a message to all employers: "Find out who you are and do it on purpose'.

If you're a CEO or leader who would like to understand where your company is at - and why people may be leaving - our Equality Standard (MRS Accredited, recognised by the IPA), will give you all the insights and actions you need to retain your talent.

SAMSUNG: DON'T TAKE A STAND IF YOU WON'T TAKE A STAND

Last week, as quickly as Samsung released an ad for their 'Galaxy Buds' featuring an emotional story between a Muslim mother and her drag queen son, it was erased after social media backlash.

What happened next matters. The company went on to apologise for creating something 'insensitive and offensive', saying they had 'fallen short in this instance'.

While it is illegal to have same-sex sex in Singapore, the drag performer, Vyla Virus, reinforced the ad focused on mother's love and acceptance, with nothing else mentioned.

For us, it's simple. Don't exploit inclusive advertising for profit and then abandon the community you represented when you receive backlash. Queer people are not a 'prop' and face serious repercussions just for being who they are in Singapore.

This was a chance for a global corporate to campaign for real change.Instead, Samsung apologised - and not to actors or the community who were effectively censored, by Samsung.
