Introducing Sophie Duker + Caitlin Moran @ RISE 2022

TIME TO RISE, TOGETHER

12th May 2022
Royal Horticultural Hall, London.
9am - 5pm

Usually, in the first week of spring, the world starts to brighten. This year, it's that word, again: unprecedented. Watching the Ukraine news drown our feeds, we see desperation and fear hand-in-hand with unbelievable courage and kindness (who faces off a tank?). Zelensky's leadership has been extraordinary as he galvanises the global community in the face of impending atrocity.

We've seen discriminatory and racist reporting this across several outlets of press coverage. This is a moment that underlines the reality of life in modern Europe, with Black and Brown people living in Ukraine systemically and individually excluded from support. 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,' says Martin Luther King. We must use the position we have to be the change, in whatever way we can.

To donate, check out this list. Or tackle this brief, put out by Ukraine's creative industry here.

Over the coming months, we believe standing together as part of a culture-shaping, change-making community matters. We stand for equity in our workplaces and our work.

This year, RISE 2022 (our first in-person conference since 2019) will bring you the inspiration and know-how to impact what we can in our working lives as we step into our own leadership.

We'll tackle the important topics: what inclusive leadership looks like, how to create fearless work, what pay equity looks like, how to drive equitable representation and what's keeping marketing leaders awake at night. Plus, we'll take on a brief for the Women's Equality Party, with leader Mandu Reid.

Added to the line up is...

CAITLIN MORAN

We welcome back this award-winning journalist, writer and broadcaster.

SOPHIE DUKER

JOIN THE WORLD'S LARGEST FISHBOWL:
yes, Gemma Greaves is back

The fishbowl has been a huge part of RISE, and this year it’s looking to be even bigger. What’s a fishbowl? Gemma brings the stage into the audience, and leads a discussion about a topic that affects us all. She invites people in the audience to share their own stories, completely off the cuff, in the moment. The audience becomes the speakers and everyone is invited to stand up and share a story. It was about giving everyone a voice. It builds an altogether altogether more democratic, safe space where everyone can speak up.

The last time we did it in person, it was on Imposter Syndrome. It’s powerful, and raw and honest and transparent. We need to share more stories with each other, more of the time. We need to share stories about our industry, about our brands, about our leadership challenges and also about ourselves as humans. It changes the way we start interacting as a community.

Join us for the next one, at RISE 2022!

CONGRATULATIONS RESH SIDHU!

In 2017, our judges spotted Resh SIdhu as an 'up and coming' creative director and she featured on our Future Leaders list with Campaign. Fast forward through her roles, the last one as an Executive Creative Director for Barbarian, and she has now just taken the job of Global Director of Arcadia at Snap Inc, leading best-in-class AR. Here's to you!

For all readers of this newsletter, you're first to know 'Future Leaders', the list of the industry's 30 rising stars for all self-identifying female and non-binary creatives is OPEN (well, officially from next March 8).
