May Mayhem: Calling ALL UK returners + THAT ad

DEADLINE EXTENDED: 13TH MAY

You know you know someone!

Our 5*-rated CreativeComeback programme for women, non-binary and GNC creatives is BACK for its fourth year.
Big, breaking news... We've extended our deadline for applicants. Yes, this is FREE if you've been out of work for more than 12 months. Gain best-in-class training from D&AD, top mentors, and the opportunity to flex your design or creative muscles (yes, we have a design-only brief) on a business challenge from Diageo, our partners. You'll have access to flexible employers who are looking for fresh talent. This is a remote programme, so it's open across the UK and Ireland.

If you're a designer, creative, social content creative, UX designer, art director, copywriter, creative director, creative strategist or 'hybrid', we want to hear from you by May 13, latest.

RISE SOLD OUT: JOIN THE WAITING LIST!

Yes, we've SOLD OUT of tickets, but if you'd like to go on the waiting list, there's a chance we may have drop outs before the day. For those who are coming, you'll be first to know ALL the breaking news. As a spoiler alert, the theme of the day is 'inclusive leadership'. While Deloitte has defined the six Cs of inclusive leadership as: Courage, Commitment, Cognisance of Bias, Curiosity, Cultural Intelligence and Collaboration, we've discovered two more emerging from our data, plus one of the most important drivers for happiness. The new additions are 'Connection' (to purpose, to line managers), 'Creativity' (the ability for leaders to leverage new, fresh ideas and innovate) and a 'E', 'Empathy'. Yes, it would have been easy to go for the 'C' Compassion, but Empathy is distinctly different.

We'll release a LIVE open brief on the day, in support of the Women's Equality Party for everyone to tackle.

For more than 50 takeaways, join our waitlist. Or, if you'd like to know more about our 'inclusive leadership' courses, say hello@creativeequals.org.

THIS SAMSUNG AD: A MISTAKE WITH A MISSED OPPORTUNITY

In this advert, 'Night Owls’ showed a woman rising up at 2am to go running in the city alone. Women watched this ad with unease, knowing if we did this, we could put our lives in danger (and, if women had been involved in making this advert, someone would have challenged wearing headphones at night). In January, runner Ashling Murphy was brutally murdered jogging in a park. After the campaign aired, the hashtag #shewasonarun started trending, with women sharing their stories of abuse.

What could Samsung have done in response? The Creative Equals' team saw a moment for Samsung to turnaround their mistake and harness the hashtag to drive a much-needed conversation about the issue of women’s safety. Like with their recent Singapore LGBTQ+ drag queen ad, they simply apologised.

FLY THE FLAG FOR UKRAINE'S CREATIVE COMMUNITY

We always love to platform meaningful initiatives. This one is from The Dots. Here how you can help Ukrainian talent find work, get career advice and navigate the UK job by joining a private community in support of ‘Opportunities for Ukraine’ – an initiative set up by Milan Nandha at Accenture. Milan has experienced first-hand how many talented and skilled Ukrainians now find themselves out of work and struggling to support their families. While the focus is on Ukraine, this is for all refugees.

You/your company can support this community by sharing:

Jobs: sharing job and internship opportunities (including remote positions)
Opportunities: other professional opportunities e.g. courses, scholarships
Career advice: mentoring, CV/portfolio reviews, career guidance, coaching

To start, join the ‘Opportunities for Ukraine’ private community channel: waitlist here
