About Creative Equals

We champion diversity through kite mark accreditations,

In 2017, we launched the Creative, Digital + Media Equality Standards as a kite mark accreditation to give individual companies a D&I review, rating and, most importantly, a road map. Many businesses understand their ‘why’, but this gives them their ‘how’ with a measurable, actionable framework across three pillars: ‘Culture’, ‘People’ and ‘Equality’, spanning all aspects of diversity (BAME, gender, neurodiversity, ability, LBGTQ, age and more).

Additionally, we have set up Creative Equals Certified, an accreditation for the recruitment sector, plus Creative Equals Voices to work with industry organisations and bodies to shape diverse juries and speaker line ups.

Aside from working with businesses to help them move forwards, our ‘north star’ is to double the number of women in leadership roles, as just 12% of creative directors in the UK are women.

Training creatives up the ladder:
1,200 creatives trained with our 'Be Awesome Night School'
400+ future leaders inspired with our #CELeaders conference
50 women on our #FutureLeaders programme with Creative Social

Supporting talent facing financial challenges:
3 Creative Equals Intern Bursaries given away with D&AD New Blood

We received funding from the Government Equalities Office to bring 58 women back to work across London and Manchester

Work across the creative industry:
Launched the Creative & Media Equality Standard,
a D&I accreditation, rating and road map for businesses
Launched the Recruitment Equality Standard for recruiters

Organised jury line-ups for Creative Circle, Campaign BIG Awards, DMAs, Effies, Big Bang and more
Created the first Shadow Jury (for BIMA, now in its third year)
Curated speakers for many events
Created awareness with research, campaigns and press
Worked across businesses to drive lasting change from the top down and the bottom up

About the founder:

Ali Hanan is an award-winning creative director who has worked in the advertising and marketing sector for the last 19 years. Over that time, she has worked for some of the world’s biggest brands, including Dulux, Guinness, Ford, IKEA, British Airways, MacDonalds (and more) at some of its leading agencies, including Ogilvy, R/GA, DigitasLBi, Iris Worldwide and many, many more.

Along the way, she has seen the impact of the lack of diversity within the industry, so in 2015, she set up Creative Equals as a ‘side project’, which has now turned an award-winning organisation with the backing of many of the largest companies, including VCCP, HavasLondon, Ogilvy, The Engine Group, AMVBBDO, Kinetic WorldWide and many more.

Her team pioneered a data-driven, people-powered model for diversity, the Creative, Digital and Media Equality Standards, now a series of recognised kitemarks, alongside an accreditation for recruiters. This has become the benchmark for the industry, giving companies a review, rating and a road map for lasting change.

The Creative Equals ethos is simple: diverse teams = diverse work = diverse audiences.
